Can we lobby for modified provisions of skil bill? As far as I know, some member of the house/senate has to present a bill with modified contents for it to be discussed. Our wish-lists (leave B but take out A) have no meaning.
Also, the bill as a whole has to make sense. It has to be tied to Skilled workers. You can't ignore the H-1B from skilled workers, although I do agree that if H1Bs keep coming at increased rates, the system will become even more clogged.

My personal advise would using AC21 and leaving Michigan. Come to California, at least we don't have these problems (yet).

That is exactly the message I am trying to convey - instead of sending many faxes whose message may not be clear to anyone, let us do something that makes sense to the law makers. Also, understand why is it that the clause was deleted and act such that a fair policy can be implemented.
Opposing the immigration bill is not in our best interest -working with law makers to insert favorable clauses will go a long way in ensuring the end of retrogression. The last thing we want is all EB provisions getting dropped from Frist/Specter's bill - that will be disastrous in the long run for everyone. Who knows how long it will take to get a similar bill in Senate?
So, IV core group, please try and ensure that

2. Suitable amendments are added to enable fair distribution of GC towards oversubscribed countries, should there be no way to reinstate the soft quota clause.

I do not worry about retrogession or competition. I am well placed here even if recession deepens. It is just an idea to reduce the retrogession at the same time make the H1b program legitimate. If you do not like the idea you can ignore. But you will realise later where is the problem Increase in Visa number is a solution that everyone knew and many are working including IV. I do not need to tell. But do you have any idea how much more GCs you need? Will you get that much? Are you optimistic of acheiving all goals set by IV? I really doubt. What if you are not able to increase in gc numbers for next 5 years at the same time if they increase H1b when economy improves? I am sure if you are genuine with good skills you will not be impacted by restriction in H1b also you will not be impacted by compettion if more H1b comes.

hello,My congratulations to all the immigration voice members who are atlast ready to file I 485 on july first.
Its unbelievable that USCIS makes the dates current inspite of predictions.
I think they got some" internal orders "from White house to get rid of backlog so they can make rooms for their dear ILLEGALS.Any way for me and i believe for ALL others Its like a first showers of monsoon.
I would like to thank core members for doing an excellent job for us.In future i see logiclife ,waldenpond and our dear pappu as our new political leaders in this foreign land."count me in" whenever you need me.

This is the new immigration bill being debated in the senate but hasn't become law. If the bill passes both chambers of congress and gets signed by the president then it'll certainly be the law.

This is what my lawyer wrote to me when I asked him if the May 21, 2007 date has any significance-
"At this point it is unclear what affect any pending legislation will have. My best guess is that whatever legislation is passed, if in fact any is passed, the legislation will only become "effective" at some future date, at least several months from now."

why does Air India have Newark to Mumbai requiring ATV?. Mumbai to Newark is understandable, but if you are going to India, why do you need an ATV.

I assume that your three year diploma is from a State govt vocational school which hands out AICTE recognised (Same body which recognises B.Tech/BE) three year diploma.Fact that you went ahead and completed another three bachelors from same institution should add up and in fact , is equivalent to a regular 4 year engg. program.
In your post, you mentioned NIIT diploma which confused lot of people.Readers confused your situation with B.Sc+NIIT diploma people.
State govt /Central govt diploma from a regular polytechnic is completely different from private shops like Aptech/NIIT handing out diplomas.

Let the CIR or SKIL bill come up as a consolidated bill in late winter as the other lawmakers were discussing...We have to keep making efforts so that the bill would come up...Remember senate was never the problem...Now with democratic house it might become easier to push the CIR /SKIL through...
Talking to the anti immigration folks is a counter productive idea....
First of all, with a democratic house, it is not AT ALL easy to get the CIR passed. Don't believe anyone who says that. That has been contradicted in every leading newspaper editorial. The new Dems are conservative. Plus they are afraid of the backlash in 2008. And a big sign of that is: Pelosi is silent on CIR. It is not coming up soon. If it were that easy, it would be the first thing they would have brought up. In fact, Pelosi even met the President immediately after it became clear that she was going to the majority leader. But it still did not come up. Isn't it obvious?

I am getting a very useless response from FTD. It's a big organization that uses multiple florists in DC. So the orders will most likely be going from different florists and will not be delivered all together. I'm sure this is fine, but we do need to have someone at FTD oversee our orders and make sure that they are delivered incase USCIS refuses delivery. On the other hand if they are being delivered from different florists via FTD that makes it even more chaotic and harder to refuse delivery from the source! At this point FTD are not cooperating on overseeing the orders and making sure that they are delivered. Should I press further, or should we hope for the best?

I have already found out today, SS office refuse to issue non-work SSN to my children, they don't recognize that tax rebate is a benefit. Actually, the guy in SS office was very rude, he did not even allow me to state my reason, keep shouting "H4 can not get SSN"
We should make action together to fight for our right. Send emails and call your congressman and senator. Make IRS recognize this is a Federal benefit and if IRS can issue the letter, we should be able to get the SSN.
