Most of the people on Immigration Voice come here for legal advice regarding immigration, what if IV negotiates a good rate with 3-4 Immigration attorneys and recommends those attorneys to members? Attorneys would get business due to IV recommendation, IV will get referral fee ($100-$200) per referral and members will get discounted rates from good attorneys.

Just a note( i am not trying to deter anybody or argue against your compilation) that by law all foreigners are required to carry their passport, how many of us follow that, on that note, I will not carry original with me at all. just my 0.02 cents.

True, we do not carry passports every time we step out of our house (for example, when going to pick up Bud Lite from my neighboring grocery store). But I would think that passports, unlike the PR card, are not designed to be tucked into your wallet for carrying around. A very sensible post. You dont need to have ur life around the GC and Priority dates. You need to do what u want to as much as within ur limits.. But one thing is USCIS can be staright forward and say EB-I wont move for such and such time and people can still plan better... :)
I agree. On an average, it seems, one spends just about 6 yrs to get his/her GC. That's nearly 20% of our productive "employment" life. At some point in the process, one starts to wonder if he/she can lay their roots in this country.
It is not an easy or trivial task to "just move on" and pursue plan B or plan C.
With passage of time, the priorities and the drive of people change.
So, the immigration system should be quick and transparent.
If you notice in daily life, there is always a "good-faith" disclosure of terms and conditions before signing up for anything. And both parties strive to keep their end of the deal.
That's all we are really asking from the SYSTEM - "If you are willing to open the gates for immigrants, please process their applications to the best extent possible and don't hold up our lives"
What is missing in this system is "empathy". Rules are fine and we also understand the over-subscription in certain categories. But at the end of day, the controlling or executive authorities have to show some empathy to those that are left hanging. Rules are made to help people and they should not become an excuse to punish [PR process delayed is justice denied, truly] the common folks instead.
President Obama has stated he would like have an empathetic judge on the supreme court. Likewise, we need someone heading the immigration system that empathizes with the lives of prospective PR lot.
What can we do to seek such a leader or change?

I assume you've likely never studied in India though. An bachelor's degree in engineering is not very expensive, if you have good grades.
10 years back it would cost about $100-200 a year, if you qualified through a state ranking system.
Tony, I didn't grow up in India. I am oblivious to its education ways. That said, some of the comments expressed here, is not the way to talk to anyone with an education, no matter what school they graduated. Anyway, I'm done here.

I am sure it is, I am a CP candidate, till now AOS dates mirrored CP dates and vice versa, so this time also it has to be true!!! Usually consulates get the dates b4hand from DOS, as they have to schedule interviews. I hope I'll be scheduled for the interview this april.

I am taking an MBA part time at Babson College (#1 in entrepreneuship). This is how i see it: With only technical skills you will hit a roof at some point, with business skills there is no roof... it is all up to you what you can do.
As far as online MBA or offline MBA. I recommend you go to class. One of the most iimportant assets of taking an MBA is the network you build during the 3-5 years (if part time).
Unfortunatelly i wanted to start a business here in the US (that is the reason for choosing Babson) but being in the GC process doesn't let me do it... according to my lawyer i am only allowed to work for my sponsor while on H1B.

A desi consulting company brought him to the US. When they realized he wasn't going to get a project, they just didn't let go of him. Since he was a reliable guy (1. he can be trusted with monthly grocery payment 2. his labor can be sold later to others 3. he servres as an insider who can get information if other consultants are trying to be sneaky by getting their resumes marketed by another company, etc etc, basically he is an asset even thought he doesn't have a project), they just decided to keep him there. These companies don't have attorneys. They take care of all legal matters themselves. Now, how much is hte USCIS fee to file for labor? How much to file for I-140? Peanuts right? So they continue to keep his application active. How hard do you think it is to get fake references when you can make fake resumes. They have fake pay stubs. Fake experience. Fake this and fake that. Everything they do is fake.
So to others who have said that this thread has to be dropped, and have said that these desi companies are right in doing what they're doing, or who have blamed the system - I think that you are one of those people who are involved in such a racket. I know that I have touched your nerves by letting the whole world about this (not that some people didn't know this already). Why else would you want this thread dropped?
Actually I know a guy who lost his job and joined a restaurant as a cook or something and applied GC, then after 1 yr or so got job again and used the EAD to change to the Tech Field again and at a different location.....I hear he is indeed facing some problems now.

What you said was absolutely correct. However most of the times the delays caused in big companies are due to various layers of communications as well as approvals.
I'm a live example of how i lost the opportunity to file 485 before Dec31/2004 for EB3 category, just because of unnecessary (so called) procedural delays

Yes, they must act in a timely manner. one way to do is HR should get all the necessary approvals from managers / directors so that they don't lose time. Secondly my observation is there is always a substanial delay at Attorney's office(few exceptions are there) to prepare the paperwork.
I dont think companies are really geared to file for 140 within 45 days of labor approval.
Most of the companies take 4-6 weeks to just send the documents the lawyers request for filing 140. Then the lawyers, most likely forget something and request more documents. It takes another 2 weeks for company to send those.
All in all, on average I think companies need 3 months after approved labor to be ready to Fedex that 140 petition. No malicious intent on the part of employer, its just how things are. 45 days is going to make things difficult for many companies and many of the lazy, slow, procrastinating law firms.

Then he says his dependents got approved on his EB2, while his case is rotting (????:D)
The story changes dramatically after you point out if he is the real cream of the crop, he should have been easily qualified for EB1.
The latest, breaking news is that he's from a top-notch research univ and has approved 140 in EB1 but still he's gonna fight for what's fair and against what's unfair (:D:D:D:D:D)
