WHY is she backing the bill..what is her motivation? or did she just decide to do a gandhi on us all?
> i am not berating anyone for that matter!
When lawmakers support certain bills..its because of the interst groups that back them..not their inner calling!
"If that is the logic then why do you think that lawmakers will work on "immigration" bills. After all the "immigration" bills only benefit folks who don't vote immediately. "
this bill is a great example. iv is the only organization that ahs pushed for it. a bunch of "non voters". our constant pushing has helped bring lawmakers to our side and even corporations taht never cared about thsi before now have it on their agenda.
our voices count.
we use them in many ways. each way is important in this system.

My attorney received the RFE yesterday (just under a week after the email notification) (and I haven't received anything directly yet).
They wanted copies of the original I-485 and G325A forms (for both my wife and me), filed in Aug. '07, signed again.
Nothing changed or updated, just our signatures above the "signatures" the attorney/representative put in the original forms for us, in 2007.
Hopefully this is all they want and not more once they receive this...fingers crossed, not holding breath! :)

Understood. Now you want all H1 L1 B1 everything to be stopped. So lets vote only for EAD/AP/GC till you get your GC. After that US should stop GC also, right? (but ofcourse, naturalization still should remain open for a few more years).
If one person can work for your job at $8/hr, and you are charging $100/hr, market would adjust itself to $8/hr (for a moment forget about who does this $8/hr, it can be a high-school kid, or anybody). The only reason why somebody blames that $8/hr kid for loosing his job is because he "thinks" he is "superior" to that kid. There are many situations where companies decide to retain "fresh college grads" and layoff "senior experienced" persons, to save money.
Don't take me wrong, but I also think the L1 is mis-used a bit. But I personally think the mis-usage comes from other factors (like H1 unavailability, employer prefer L1 because employee cannot change to another employer in L1, other H1 restrictions) etc..
Not a bit. If you want I can give you a plenty... L1 is for intercompany transfer. But So far I have seen companies put people only at the client place and their salary is starting at 32K and they are put up at extended staty, asked to share the cab or car. So let me know if you want and I can directly let you talk to those guys.
Though I am not supporting this bill, we have to accept the face there is no numerical limit on L1 and no knows how many L1 are getting approvd every year. L1 guys can not change their employer, they dont have any idea about their benifts. I know a company which have a policy that the employee can not have US insurance untill he is here for six months. They bought the cheap indian insurance and no doctor is accepting here. So the employee needs to pay from his pocket and need to collect it later. Because of this guys are not even going to the hospital.
Yes, you can work for $8 but there is something called law. I have personelly checked their labor which states 55K. But they are paid only 32K.
So our common goal is to fix the broken system, remove the employer's undue advantage over the employee. No matter if they are MNC or desi consulting companies. Why the employee is tied to the employer when there is the need/demand for the skill set. Thats the only thing which is driving down the wages.

There is no requirement in INA regarding the number of years in degree.
ImmInfo Newsletter: The Culture of No: More on the USCIS challenge of educational credentials (http://www.imminfo.com/News/Newsletter/2011-4-15/USCIS-challenge-credentials.html)
They are likely to lose, if litigated against.. just saying
It is not about 4 years degree But 16 years education to attain the degree.
Does anyone know recent EB2 approvals with B.Sc., B.Com degree from India (Even with M.Sc. , MBA, MCA etc). I thought they stopped approving such cases long back.

If the visitor develops some symptom, it could be because of some condition that originated in his/her country and the symptoms showed up now. Note that in this case the insurance will treat it as a pre-existing condition and the claims will be denied.
Remember that insurance companies make the determination only after a claim is made and not before the visitor is taken to a doctor. So please be aware of all scenarios before buying an insurance.
My suggestion is to get a medical checkup done in the home country for any hidden condition, get it treated if you are buying just an emergency insurance or declare the condition and buy an insurance that covers pre-existing case. Be aware that depending on the condition the premium could be high or if the condition requires treatment the insurance could be denied..

Exactly.. You apply now.. no way it is going to get approved in time.. substitution approval takes anywhere between 4 months to 1 yr. Most common I heard is 6 months. you try to slide just under the door.. they aren't going to be happy abt it..
Did you hear about premium processing for I-140? Is substitution excluded from this premium process?

D. VISA AVAILABILITY FOR OCTOBER
The Mexico F2A and Employment Third preference cut-off dates are unavailable for both August and September, since those FY-2008 annual limits have been reached. The Visa Office had originally anticipated that this would be a temporary situation. Then with the start of the new fiscal year in October the cut-off dates would have returned to those which had applied during June. However, continued heavy demand in those categories may require the establishment of cut-off dates which are earlier than those which had applied in June. A formal decision determination of the October cut-off dates will not be possible until early September.
This is really bad news indeed. USCIS is screwing us up big time. How can they see a demand for the numbers when there is no one applying for the past 3 months?

There is a funding drive in this other thread towards reimbursing Aman's expenses.

Could you please pledge an amount ?
Even if it is a typo and it turns out to be 6400$ which is unlikely, can everyone contribute 64$? Lets do our 1%. What say?

Thanks B3NKobe. I've been meaning to jump in on a battle here and this seemed like the perfect one to try (my first ever!). The image you picked was easy to work with... which was very nice.
I really wanted to do something with the big ugly grey button, but figured it might be considered more like a mod and not a skin. So I just left it.

I had signed in but don't know how to vote. The link you mention below does not work either.
No more chance to vote. But you can submit your ideas.
Dear Pappu,
I wish next time when the window opens for voting, can you please hIGHLIGHT it on the site, so that people who login, can immediately go and vote. Else these guys have time to spend on why airindia sucks, or palestine, or stocks in this site, but not for something more impo.
I could know only when I checked some post, else even I would have missed it.

Should I say that all of you those who bought homes and are having a life bought a home with 0% down and interest only loan so that you can save your taxes now and if your GC does not come through in 5 years, you will walk out with out any loss as you made hefty deductions and haven't paid single penny towards the mortgage and simply go to Timbuktu or Krakovia. I will not!.
Thanks for calling me a hypocrite with out reading the whole answer. I was just giving a hypothetical example on how one can talk about others life and practices in life sitting before a computer. Thanks for your clarification on whom you considered XYZ because lack of GC has stopped them from buying a home. I will respectfully disagree with your opinion that GC is not a non stopper for every one and there is a significant contingent out there who dont want to buy a home without a GC and consider it risk. Opinions differ and yours is taken. Again, You in the above hypothetical example does not refer to any one in person.

Most immigrants apply for citizenship in developed countries for the sheer luxury of visa free travel to most countries and to bring their spouse/families closer to them without any immigration hassles. It has got nothing to do with renouncing all the ties with their home countries.
I know a friend who recently became a Canadian citizen and he said that he was murmuring a Hindi film song when the Canadian national anthem was played during the oath ceremony. The only reason he immigrated to Canada was to get a Canadian passport so that he can work in US and travel around the world without visa hassles.
I also have a friend whos a US citizen and he was able to get his newly wed wife into US in 3 months. He visits India regularly to take care of his property investments, watches cricket/desi movies, loves eating food at the road side eateries and by all means hes still an Indian at heart.
Citizenship is like getting an unlimited credit our existing credit card (GC). The more the limit the more flexibility we get. So lets avoid bringing patriotic fervor into such posts.
I like your response, really -- I think it's frank and hits upon what it means to be Indian at heart.
BUT, when one makes a decision to immigrate - he/she's not just making that decision for himself - but also for his/her spawns and the future generations to come. Is it fair for us to rob them of (well, i know most american born desi kids don't care a rats ass about going/being in India) - what it feels to be an Indian at Heart? what it 'Really' feels like to be watching/talking cricket/movies on 'em gullies, what it's like to be eating gaadi chaat, what a festival should really feel/look like .. and a bunch of other stuff- -that happens only in India.
not trying to discount anyone's opinions .. it's just the internal dilemma that needs addressing
