Yes a new memo was issued in 2009 (After DHS confirmed that they have worked with FBI to reduce the response time.) Now since FBI claims that 90/95% of the requests are happening within 6 months. DHS/USCIS is not allowing automatic approval of GC is FBI check was the only peice pending and was pending for more than 180 days.
I went to Infopass today, unfortunately service rep on counter was totally uncooperative. She did not tell anything other than my background check is still pending. As per my estimation, it has been pending for more than six months now. I understand that my PD is not current as of yet but, based on recent movement, I hope to have my date current in next couple of months. But, it may not help me much if BC is still pending..
Any suggestions from IV.. What can I do about it? I planning to get in touch with my attorney but, I don't think they can be of much help..

I won't like to take names on public forum of the Congress members we have/will approach. But to answer you question, we are taking all necessary steps to make this walk a success. Also, the measure of success will be a large turn-out by legals to protest, which in itself is unprecedented. We won't like to marry the success of this protest with the presence of any particular Congress member or Senator at this time. The bottomline is, media coverage for our issue.

In this section they cited the Computer Analyst example and I am afraid this WILL IMPACT every consulting company.:mad:
VERY VERY BAD and DIRECT descrimination.
I wonder how these USCIS people decide internally the labor practices like that...
This is definitely descrimination and deviation from open employment practices.

I have come across at least one-colleague in every client place who left U.S.A - after being here for more than 7 years. And they do have children, houses and handsome salaries. And I know of number of people who have plans to eventually go back. But it's just matter of time and money. If property prices were not crazy in India, I am sure more people would have left by now.

No It was not a joke.
If you think you earn way more then go ahead and contribute more. I just put dollar amounts in front. Many desis here work at 55-65K per year and that is roughly $30 an hour. The ideas is get off your high horses and earn money through sheer labor to get the job of funds done. I see no problem with that.

Because I doubt that anyone willing to wash my car for a few bucks is highly skilled. Personally, I prefer, give 1 day of salary - that's way over $25, and far more effective (I get paid more than $25 for the time it takes to wash a car).

One of the approaches can be for state chapters to be involved and solicit donations from local members. I liked the idea for donations from immigrants who have already obtained green cards and online ADS from google as long as we do not overdo it. I am leaning more towards funding drives. For reasons that people in the process understand better than I do, I agree that the amounts cannot be disclosed. Hence it would be nice to have offline discussions or discussions on PMs on targets between state chapter members.
I for one am not for monthly payments or memberships. That just makes for exclusive organization and we want to be more inclusive.
I also had another important question we need to ask ourselves. Do we want to solicit funding or donations or participation? They are two very different things. Participation is not limited to monetary involvement but can include time and ability (designing banners, websites, writing letters et al.) donation.

The FEAR I see among many people is really pathatic, I know couple of friends does not even want to talk to me on phone about this matter thinking that some one might be listening,
Sometimes, the fears arise from watching too many movies. Like the movie "Enemy of the State" where some govt agencies hunt down Will Smith and unravel his life apart. Remember? Gene Hackman : "US Govt has computers underground that are several square miles and they track every wire, every airwave....".

Firstly, its a movie. Secondly even if its true, what's there to be afraid of??? If you talk on the phone about legal course of action to lobby, why would you be afraid of.
Like I said, you have to give some credit to the Irish. They have the chutzpah of going to lawmaker's offices in DC and say "I am an illegal...I broke the laws and overstayed my visa...please change to law to make everything ok again for me please...". And our community thinks that someone is listening to their phone conversation about how to raise money and lobby for the legal immigrants?????

You have a point...Ideas like yours should be given good consideration.
But IV core team has lots of experience and they have even started having talks with USICS directly, is'nt that a big achievement!
We need to try different ways to contact the law makers and find out which one is easy to implement and works efficiently.
When you call the law makers and tell them you support XYZ bill.. my question is what do you get out of it!
When the lawmaker realizes that he is getting 10000 calls from LEGAL aliens,
>who are not from his constituency,
>who can�t vote and
>who can�t contribute to his election campaign�
what is the motivation for the law maker to support the bill�
So to avoid sounding stupid and foolish and desperate when you call� a more logical approach would be to :
a) Generate a public petition form on IV website and have all the members� login and sign the forms digitally�
b) Then have IV reps.. fax them and send them to lobby groups �.
c) Lawmakers will listen to one talking head�and not worry abt 1000 calls that borders on ..�saar �support the bill saar�..
How many of you have actually talked to the lawmakers? Its always the assistant!
But instead .. someone says we have a signed petition of 25000 members effected by immigration mess �. And it�s a hi tech workers lobby group ..every lawmaker will talk to you and not the assistant!
Conclusion: calling the lawmakers haphazardly is actually hurting IV cause..to a certain extent!

i call embassy every day...they say under processing..VO has your case/pp..

Thanks ilikekilo, I'll check out IMG. Even with the rider for pre-existing condition, the coverage is limited to $15000 max, so I decided it isn't worth paying the extra premium for such little coverage.
