Inmate Stabs Lawyer With Pencil For Second Time In A Week
Inmate accused of second pencil attack in court
EVERETT, Wash. - An inmate at the Snohomish County Jail who allegedly stabbed his lawyer in the neck with a pencil earlier this week reportedly did the same thing again Friday. Joshua Monson, 27, was in court for a motion Friday to stay action in his criminal cases so he can receive a mental health evaluation at Western State Hospital. On Monday, Monson allegedly stabbed defense attorney Tom Cox. On Friday, he was in a hearing being conducted at the jail with the judge participating by video link, as reported by The Herald's news partner, KIRO-7. That's when Monson's new attorney, Gurjit Pandher, was attacked. Contacted after the hearing, Pandher declined to talk about what happened. Pandher was not seriously hurt, Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said. He was checked over by a nurse and continued with his workday. Monson is facing a murder trial after he was accused of shooting a man in the head in a south Everett apartment in January. Witnesses told detectives that Monson and the victim, Brian Jones, were rivals because of their mutual interest in Jones' girlfriend. Monson allegedly stabbed Cox during jury selection for a 2010 drug case. He was assigned a new lawyer Thursday. In both stabbings, Monson allegedly used small jailhouse pencils, similar to golf pencils. "The inmate is currently being held in the booking area in a restraint chair, and any future movement of him, as far as appearances or anything like that, will likely occur in a restraint chair," Hover said. This case will be referred to the prosecutor's office in addition to the first pencil stabbing case, she said.
In general, I don't really have a problem with most lawyers being stabbed in the neck. But the part of this story that amazes me is how it could have possibly happened a second time. After ol' Josh here stabbed his lawyer once, wouldn't it just be common sense to make sure that he didn't have any pencils on him the next time he appeared in court? Especially since the dude is an accused murderer. Moronic is all I can say. The stupidity epidemic in America continues and shows no signs of abating. Smarten the fuck up people! Bang. Done.
